From busy city stations to the rolling landscapes of Bavaria, we're taking a closer look at Bahnstrecke Nürnberg - Würzburg, one of three new core routes arriving with Train Sim World 7 on September 15th.

Stretching for more than 100 km between two of Bavaria and Franconia's major railway hubs, this is a route built around variety. Take charge of regional and S-Bahn services, settle in for long-distance ICE running or head for Nürnberg Rbf and put modern freight power to work.

Bahnstrecke Nürnberg - Würzburg was first revealed during Dovetail Direct: Summer 2026. Catch up on the original reveal and see the route in action below.

Beginning amid the rails and platforms of Nürnberg Hbf, the route heads west through the Bavarian and Franconian landscape via Neustadt before eventually reaching Würzburg Hbf.

Across more than 100 km of railway you'll encounter 19 detailed stations, ranging from major city termini to smaller regional stops nestled between towns and countryside.

Originally opened in 1865 as a more direct connection between Nürnberg and Würzburg, the railway developed into an important corridor for regional, long-distance and freight traffic.

That history has left behind a route where different types of railway operation constantly overlap. S-Bahn trains weave between local stations, regional services connect the larger towns, ICE trains make their way between cities and freight traffic threads through it all.

Making its Train Sim World debut is the DB BR 440, bringing a new generation of German regional traction to the series.

Presented in DB Regio red, the continental-style electric multiple unit puts you in charge of regional passenger services across the route, calling at towns and cities between Nürnberg and Würzburg.

Its distinctive design and open cab provide another flavour of modern German railway operation, particularly when contrasted against the longer-distance and freight traffic sharing the line.

Alongside the BR 440, the included DB BR 442 Talent 2 takes charge of Nürnberg S-Bahn duties, giving you a more stop-focused experience on services around the eastern end of the route.

Together, they provide two different ways to experience the everyday passenger railway before you even step aboard an ICE.

One of the most requested trains in Train Sim World is finally here.

The Train Sim World 7 Deluxe Edition adds the DB BR 412 ICE 4, bringing the latest generation of Deutsche Bahn's ICE fleet to Train Sim World for the first time.

Entering passenger service in 2016, the ICE 4 represents a new era of German long-distance travel and has become an increasingly common sight across the country's railway network.

Both 12-car and 13-car variants are included, allowing you to take charge of this modern high-speed EMU on ICE services between Nürnberg and Würzburg.

Step inside its modern driver's cab, experience its distinctive performance and take the newest generation of ICE traction across the rolling landscape of the route.

And the ICE 4's possibilities extend beyond Nürnberg - Würzburg.

Players who own Schnellfahrstrecke Nürnberg - Ingolstadt will also be able to take the ICE 4 onto that route through a new timetable, adding services and giving the locomotive another German high-speed railway to call home.

The DB BR 412 ICE 4 High Speed EMU Add-On is included with Train Sim World 7 Deluxe and Ultimate Editions. It will also be available to purchase separately although For the full ICE 4 experience, we recommend picking up the full route.

Fancy skipping a few stops?

The DB BR 401 ICE 1 is also included with Bahnstrecke Nürnberg - Würzburg, putting classic German high-speed traction onto the route's long-distance services.

Rather than the frequent stops of the BR 440 and BR 442, ICE duties let you settle into longer runs between the major cities, managing the changing signals and speed limits as you make your way across the countryside.

With regional, S-Bahn and ICE traffic all sharing the railway, the route offers a very different experience depending on which cab you choose to climb into.

Passenger trains aren't the only traffic keeping this corridor busy.

The included DB BR 193 Vectron brings modern electric freight operations to Nürnberg - Würzburg, giving you the chance to weave heavier trains between the passenger traffic and make use of Nürnberg Rbf.

Freight also gives the route another way to experience Train Sim World 7's new Freight Hauler mode.

Use the Vectron and freight stock from your collection to tackle switching and hauling operations your own way, putting the extensive railway around Nürnberg and the route's freight infrastructure to work.

A selection of Scenarios will introduce the different trains and styles of operation found across Nürnberg - Würzburg, from regional passenger work to long-distance and freight duties.

Beyond these curated experiences, Timetable Mode recreates the everyday flow of the railway, bringing regional, S-Bahn, ICE and freight services together across the same corridor.

Whether you want a shorter stopping service, a longer run between the cities or something heavier behind the Vectron, there will be plenty of opportunities to find your preferred way to experience the route.

And for players with an established German Train Sim World collection, things can get even busier.
